INDOOR AIR QUALITY CHECKLIST
Provide Minimum Indoor Air Quality per ASHRAE 62 - 1999 - Specifies minimum ventilation rates and indoor air quality that will be acceptable to human occupants. The standard is intended to minimize the potential for adverse health effects and applies to all indoor or enclosed spaces that people may occupy.
Keep air intake shafts/inlets away from cooling towers, sanitary vents, loading docks, parking garages, kitchen exhausts, trash enclosures and heavily traveled roads.
Meet ASHRAE 129-1997 - This standard defines a method of measuring air-change effectiveness in mechanically ventilated buildings. The method involves an age-of-air approach to air-change effectiveness and employs tracer gas procedures to measure the age of air. The age of the air at a given location is the average amount of time that has elapsed since the air molecules at that location entered the building. The definition of air-change effectiveness is based on a comparison of the age of air in the occupied portions of the building to the age of air that would exist under conditions of perfect mixing of the ventilation air. Meet air effectiveness E greater than 0.9.
Provide natural ventilation - Use operable windows.
Low VOC materials - Select appropriate materials such as Low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) paint, adhesives, and sealants.
| |||||||||
No Smoking Indoors - provide outside smoking areas away from entrances and air inlets.
Carbon Dioxide Detectors - CO2 must be less than 530 ppm.
Indoor Pollution Control - Separate copy machine and fax machine room ventilation system. |
