Use building materials which are rapidly renewable materials:

Specify wood certified by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Specify building products that has recycled content materials such as steel, aluminum, concrete, masonry, carpet, tile and insulation.

Provide storage and collection of recyclables such as paper, cardboard, glass, plastics and aluminum in offices and homes.

Specify rubberized asphalt for parking lots made with recycled automobile tires.

Specify porous concrete paving. The porosity allows storm water to percolate down to the ground thereby minimizing storm water runoff and replenishes the water table.

Implement construction waste management plan to divert debris from landfill to recycling plants. Recycle  debris such as concrete steel, glass, drywall, carpet and insulation.

Specify low VOC materials such as low-toxicity, water-based adhesives contain latex or polyvinyl acetate.
